ZIP Code Routing is Back

Released: December 2025

It’s back! We are thrilled to announce that ZIP code routing has been officially reinstated for the upcoming tax season. Our team spent this summer working through a major cross-disciplinary collaboration to resolve the underlying issues with this feature and rebuild it better than before. We know how crucial ZIP code routing is for our partners and can’t wait for you to start using it again.

As a reminder, we use the following routing hierarchy to ensure that clients are connected to the appropriate tax team:

  1. Unique URL
  2. ZIP Code
  3. State
  4. National Overflow

Language Preference Routing

Released: December 2025

Zip code, state, and national overflow routing now takes a client’s preferred phone interview language preference into account when placing them with a VITA partner! In other words, from the list of available partners serving a client’s zip code or state, the system will first attempt to route the client to a VITA partner that can assist in their preferred language. If no matches are found, the system will try again and not take language preference into consideration the second time around.
