About

The UX Cohort immerses young adults from Memphis in a real-world research and design project while receiving dedicated support and mentorship. Over 24 weeks, participants gain hands-on experience in human-centered design and user experience (UX) while building practical skills.

Project

Cohort members will learn and apply research and design skills to make recommendations to improve a feature on the RiseKit digital hub.

What is RiseKit?

RiseKit is a digital platform designed to connect job seekers with employment, training, and support services. It partners with workforce development programs and community-based organizations to help individuals access economic mobility opportunities.

Who is running this cohort?

This is an initiative led by Code for America’s Memphis Project Team in collaboration with RiseKit. Code for America is a civic-tech nonprofit that believes government at all levels can and should work well for everyone. In 2023-2024, we worked with Memphis-Shelby County government and partnered with Beyond Educating Foundation, RESPECT the Haven CDC, and The Collective Blueprint to organize the Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) Project (learn more here).

UX Cohort Details

• Duration: 24 weeks (mid-April to September 2025)
• Format: Hybrid program (online and in-person)
• Time Commitment: 5 hours per week
• Payment: $20/hour (~120 hours total, $2,400 in total), plus financial support to assist with transportation and connectivity needs to engage in this opportunity. As a cohort member, you will be an independent contractor, with payments issued on a monthly basis.
