Clients often attach documents with file names that don't make it clear what the document is. Make things easier for volunteers who will work with this return by naming documents according to this convention. When you are through, you should be able to quickly see from the list if any required documents are missing.

Identity documents: IDs, Social Security Cards, ITINs, or selfies - include the type of document (ex. license, passport) and the relationship to the taxpayer. If there are multiple dependents, include the first name as it appears on the document so it's clear if any are missing. No tax year needs to be selected.

⚠️ View the documents directly in your browser — do not download any client documents to your computer.

To view and rename a document, click on Edit at the far right. Next, select the correct document type. For identity documents, you have three choices:

Finally, type a meaningful Display name according to the following convention:

name_type_role_back_condition

For example, for a client named Maria, name her driver's license maria_license.

If her spouse, Leo, submits an ITIN, the Display name should be leo_itin_spouse
